About Volotea Airlines
Volotea was founded by Barcelona-based Alaeo S., a company founded by former Vueling founders Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros. The name "Volotea" comes from the Spanish verb "revolotear", which means "to fly". It began operating from Venice Marco Polo Airport on April 5, 2012.The company is backed by three private equity funds, two from Europe (Axis Participaciones Empresariales and Corpfin Capital) and a third from the United States (CCMP Capital), whose President, Greg Brenneman, was President and Chief Operating Officer of the American airline Continental Airlines and also heads the board of Volotea. The company raised more than 50 million euros before starting operations. US CCMP Capital Partners owns 49% of the voting rights; Axis and Corpfin Capital 25%; and Muñoz y Ros 26% along with with relatives: This ownership has existed since inception but could change with an IPO before 2021-2022.
