You can cancel your United Airlines flight in certain circumstances. You can cancel a non-refundable ticket purchased by United Airlines at any time prior to departure. Basic Economy tickets cannot be cancelled within the 24-hour grace period, provided you bought at least one week before departure.
You will need to pay USD 200 cancellation fees for domestic tickets and USD 400 for international tickets if you have purchased a non-refundable one. This depends on the type of ticket and route. You will be able to receive your balance fare, less the cancellation fee, in the form a credit that can be used for future United Airlines travel.

United allows you cancel any type of fare except Basic Economy. For flights departing within 7 days, Basic Economy tickets may be cancelled within 24 hours.
All customers are able to cancel their tickets within 24 hours of the booking date without any cancellation fees, provided that they purchased the ticket at least one week before departure. This applies to all tickets, including non-refundable ones.
United Airlines charges a cancellation fee of USD 200 for domestic flights. International flights can be cancelled for USD 400 depending on the route and fare.
For award tickets cancelled less than 61 days prior to departure, the cancellation fee is USD 75 for general members and USD 50 for Silver and Gold members. The USD 25 penalty applies to gold members and Platinum members.
For award tickets that are cancelled less than 60 days before departure, the cancellation fee is USD 125 for all members, US 100 for silver members and USD 75 for Gold members. The USD 50 for Platinum members and USD 50 for Bronze members are nil.
Cancellations by United Airlines can be done in two ways: phone or online. You can cancel your United Airlines ticket by phone, or online via the My Trips tab. To cancel your United Airlines flight, you must contact the agent you purchased it from (online or phone).
If you are seriously ill, dies, or receive military jury duty orders from United, United may waive cancellation fees. You will need to show proof of valid reason, however. You should always ask if you are able to cancel your contract without penalty.
You will be issued a credit after you cancel a United Airlines flight. It is valid for exactly one year from the date of issue. If United Airlines cancels your flight, and you are unable to be rebooked for a flight that takes you to your destination in less than 6 hours from the original flight's arrival, you may claim a full reimbursement.
United Airlines will issue a credit for cancellations of flights or services in the form either an Electronic Travel Credit (valid 24 months) or Future Flight Credit (12 months).
You must locate your certificate details to use United Airlines flight credit for a cancelled or changed flight. These details are found in the mail that you received at the time the certificate was issued. You can also access it from this page by entering your year of issue, 10-digit PIN and last name or from Your Account if you have one. Once you've found the information, apply the credit to the payment page and book your next flight.
