About Skippers Aviation Airlines
Skippers Aviation was established in 1990. They operate a fleet consisting of three Cessna Conquest turboprop aircraft and one Cessna 402C, which they rent from the Perth Flight Centre.
Skippers has been focusing on its core business over the years of providing exceptional service and flexibility to Australia's resource industry as well as Regulated Passenger Transport destinations. Our key advantage is having modern aircraft that are able to handle the harsh airstrips and extreme conditions found in remote areas.
Skippers is the only Perth General Aviation Company that has taken on the problem of older aircraft with its steady and significant growth. We purchased a fleet 3 Metro23 turboprop aircraft at a significant price premium in 1995. This was part our commitment to providing the best technology for our passengers to ensure their comfort and peace-of-mind.
Over the next three years, more Metro 23s were added to the fleet, totalling 5.
Skippers constructed their state-of-the-art passenger terminal, engineering facility, and operations center at Perth Airport in 1997/98. Two turboprop De Havilland Dash-8 turboprop aircraft were also added to the fleet during this period. These new aircraft, which can seat 36 people each, significantly increased Skippers' capability and enhanced the versatility of an already flexible fleet.
In that same year, Skippers Aviation also established a Broome, Western Australia base with WA Transport and Ansett Australia, a well-established mining company. A hangar, office complex and maintenance facility were constructed. Skippers continue to operate their aircraft from this base on a contract or ad-hoc charter basis.
The Embraer Brasilia, the fastest turboprop regional passenger airliner on the market today, was purchased by skippers to add more aircraft to the fleet.
In the second half of the year, Skippers bought two more Brasilia aircraft despite the financial hardships that some experienced in the aviation industry. The purchase of these aircraft was seen as a step forward in the rehabilitation of options for a diverse fleet. Our clients were able to quickly realize the cost savings.
Our Air Operators Certificate was upgraded in 1999 to allow the provision of RPT (Regular Passenger Transport), services to the general population. Skippers was able to continue connecting remote Western Australian communities to Perth after Ansett collapsed in 2001. They also operated within a highly regulated passenger marketplace. Skippers still operates quality air services to many destinations, including flights to Mt Magnet and Leonora, Leonora and Laverton.
The company's current fleet grew to 24 aircraft in 2008 with the addition of 50 more DeHavilland Dash 8300 passenger aircraft. In 2011, two DeHavilland Dash-8300 passenger aircraft and 52 DeHavilland Dash-8300 aircraft. Two DeHavilland Dash-8300 aircraft were added to the fleet, which now includes 26 aircraft. Finally, two F100 aircraft (108 seats) were purchased in 2013. This gives the company a total capacity to 983 seats. The Skippers are able to provide quality service at levels comparable to major airlines.
