About LIAT

LIAT (Leeward Islands Air Transport), is an airline that is based in Antigua's V. C. Bird International Airport. It also has a base at Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados. LIAT offers high-frequency inter island scheduled services to many destinations in the Caribbean.

In 1956, the airline was established and began flights between Antigua (Montserrat) within a few years. The airline was able expand its Caribbean routes with new aircraft types over the next ten years thanks to new shareholders. LIAT announced in 2007 a merger with Caribbean Star Airlines. This combined their schedules and flew under the LIAT brand.

Seven Caribbean governments own the airline, with Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados and St. Vincent and The Grenadines being the largest shareholders.

It is a good idea to arrive at the airport no less than 2 hours before your flight departs. The check-in desks close 45 minutes before departure. Seats are assigned at check-in on a first-come-first-served basis, so families who wished to be seated together had to arrive as early as possible.

It is important that passengers report to the airline check in counters immediately upon arrival at the airport. Check-in counters at airlines should be labeled with the airline logo and name. Passengers who fail to arrive by the deadline to check in may not be allowed to board.
