LATAM Express, formerly LAN Express, is a division of LATAM Chile with headquarters in Santiago, Chile.
Few domestic flights are run by it for its parent. Arturo Merino Bentez International Airport serves as its major hub. On November 1, 1958, Juan Costabal Echeique founded the airline under the name Ladeco, which mostly operated domestic services between Chile's major cities.
The company first focused mostly on domestic flights, but eventually offered services on international routes to the Caribbean and North America. 1993 saw the transfer of 37.35% of Ladeco to Iberia, which later authorised the sale to LAN-Chile. Ladeco was added to LAN-fleet Chile's in 1994 when the company acquired more than 99.41% of the shares. When the takeover occurred, the airline was mostly outfitted with Boeing 737s.
Then, it was used only as an internal carrier within Chilean cities. Ladeco and Fast Air Carrier amalgamated in October 1998. Ladeco and LAN-Chile were the first airlines in the world to receive certification for their TQM-integrated flight operations in 2000. On October 28, 2001, Ladeco formally changed its name to LAN Express, a new LAN-Chile affiliate, and most internal functions were transferred to this new entity. The company's name was later reincorporated into LAN Airlines in 2006, even though it had previously run a few domestic flights under the name LAN Express. As a result of the merger with LATAM Airlines Group, the airline changed its name to LATAM Express on May 5, 2016. In April 2018, the airline experienced a protracted strike that caused the majority of its flights to be cancelled.
