The largest airline holding company in Latin America, LATAM Airlines Group, was founded by Santiago, Chile-based LATAM Airlines Chile (formerly LAN Airlines and LAN-Chile). Santiago's Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport serves as the primary hub, with additional hubs located in Bogota, Guayaquil, Lima, and Quito.
Through its local subsidiaries, LAN, which once served as Chile's flag carrier until being privatised in the 1990s, is the leading airline in Chile, Ecuador, and Peru and the second-largest carrier in Colombia.
