Iberia Express is a Spanish low-cost airline owned by Iberia that operates short- and medium-haul routes from its parent company's hub at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, with connecting flights to Iberia's long-haul network.IAG announced the launch of Iberia Express on October 6 2011, which led to a pilots' strike in late December 2011 over concerns about potential job losses from the new airline.Aircraft on other Iberia routes would be switched to the new subsidiary and new pilots and flight attendants would be hired to operate the flights. Iberia intended the new airline to cover routes operated by the parent company at a loss and with lower operating costs.Iberia Express began operations on March 25, 2012 and shared headquarters with Iberia in Chamartín, Madrid.The new airline began operations with a fleet of four Airbus A320 aircraft in two-class Business and Economy configurations.
Iberia Express is the low-cost company of the Iberia Group, based in Madrid and a member of oneworld, which operates short- and medium-haul routes both to feed its parent company's long-haul network and to operate efficiently in the segment of low-cost airlines. Please note that check-in for flights to/from Cuba, El Salvador, United States, United Kingdom, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico and South Africa does not open until 24 hours before departure.The deadline to get your boarding pass online is up to 1 hour before the scheduled departure (90 minutes in Lagos, San José and 180 minutes in Caracas). Checked baggage must be checked in at the check-in desk at least 45 minutes before departure. These bags travel in the aircraft hold and are collected by the passengers at the baggage claim area at the destination airport.
