Pet Policy

Pets are like family. We are committed to making sure your pets, including cats, dogs, hamsters and others, have a safe and enjoyable trip. There are a few things you should know before you take your pet on your next vacation.

Here are some things you should know before you travel with your pet.

  • One-way, direction charge will be charged and can be paid at booking. You will need to pay the full amount at check-in if you don't pay in advance. You can also bring a personal item (8"Hx14"Wx18"L) or a carry-on bag (10'Hx16"Wx24"L). The carry-on bag will be subject to an additional charge.
  • Pets are not allowed to be checked in as baggage.
  • You should ensure that you are familiar with the laws, customs, restrictions, and requirements of the country, state, or territory from which your animal is being shipped. It is your responsibility. Remember to get your pet's necessary health documents.
  • We ask that pets not be left without food or water for more than four hours after their departure.

Here are some things you should know about traveling with your pet in the cabin.

  • Only certain animals are permitted in the cabin
    • Minimum 8 weeks old for domestic cats and dogs.
    • You can fly domesticated pets, such as dogs, cats, rabbits or guinea-pigs, within the United States.
    • These species are not accepted Parrots, macaws and cockatoos are not accepted: large birds (e.g.
    • Only domesticated cats and dogs can be transported to or from international destinations.
  • All domestic Frontier flights allow pets in the cabin, as well as international flights to/from Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
  • When traveling with your pet, you are not allowed to sit in row one or exit row.
  • Your pet must be kept in its travel container at all costs. You can soothe your pet if he/she is being disruptive.
    Please note: Although it may seem tempting to comfort your pet while traveling, most veterinarians recommend against sedated pets as the unpredictable effects of tranquilizers can have on animals at higher altitudes.
  • While your pet is on an aircraft, we ask that you refrain from feeding or watering them. Your pet could be uncomfortable from the stress of travel, the motion of an aircraft, or other factors.
  • In the case of an emergency, A pet will not be given oxygen.
  • You pet should be calm, non-disruptive, doorless and need no attention while flying.

Here are some things you should know about your pet's travel container.

  • The pet must be able to sit, turn around and lie down in the travel container. You must also ensure that the carrier fits under the seat in front. We may not be able to accommodate your pet container in certain seats, but we will work with you and find a suitable seat.
  • Maximum dimensions for a pet box are 18 inches long x 14 inches wide x 8 inches high
  • We recommend that the container has a soft-sided design.
  • You must ensure that your pet is always in the same container.

PET HEALTH & WELLNESS

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), regulates pet transport within the United States. Although we don't require a health certificate to transport pets within the United States, they may require one upon landing in the state where you are landing. Please consult your veterinarian for clarification.

A health certificate is required for international travel. There may be additional vaccination requirements in each country. Consulates can give you more information about other diseases that your pet should be vaccinated against.

Here are some things you should know about your pet's certificate of health:

  • Date must be determined based on the country of entry
    • Within 30 days after entry to Puerto Rico
    • Within 10 days after entry to the U.S.
    • Within 15 days after entry into the Dominican Republic
    • Within 14 days after entry to Costa Rica
    • Within five days of your entry to Mexico
  • Include:
    • Name and address
    • Animal species
    • Country of origin/destination
    • Adult pets three months or older must be immunized against rabies within twelve months. This applies to all destinations, except Puerto Rico and Costa Rica. Adult pets in Costa Rica are defined as being aged 4 months or older. Puerto Rico defines adult pets as being 4 months old or older. They must be immunized against Rabies within six months. Please note: It is mandatory that the immunization be given no later than one year and no earlier than thirty days before international travel. A proof of the previous rabies shot must be provided if a pet has received a rabies booster within thirty days of an international flight.
  • Additional requirements vary by country
    • A licensed veterinarian must issue the rabies vaccination certificate in English or French. After the vaccination has been administered, there is no waiting period. Canada also recognizes the three-year rabies vaccine. It is important to note that the validity date on the certificate will not be recognized.
    • A certificate of health must either be in English or French, and it must be signed by a licensed veterinarian. It must identify the animal and include the date of vaccination, manufacturer, and expiration date for the Rabies vaccine.
    • Parasitic treatment must also be documented.
    • Mexico and the Dominican Republic require that a health certificate be signed stating that the pet has been treated for parasite prevention and is free of parasites.
    • It is recommended that you get the following vaccines: PIP, Hepatitis and Leptospirosis.
    • Puerto Rico needs a strong collar and two identification tags. You will need to include your permanent address, telephone number, and an address and phone number that can be reached during travel.
    • All pets being shipped to Canada must have a rabies vaccine and a certificate of health.

Frontier Airlines Pet Policy

Frontier's pet policy allows you to bring small domestic animals, such as dogs, cats, rabbits and guinea-pigs, into your cabin while flying within the United States. To fly, all dogs and cats must have a minimum of 8 weeks' age.

Frontier Airlines does not allow pets other than those listed above. You can't take large pets (including parrots and macaws as well as birds of prey and birds-of-prey), rodents or ferrets, rodents, beavers and ferrets, reptiles and amphibians, spiders, and insects along with you on Frontier Airlines flights.

Frontier Airlines' pet policy prohibits the transport of pets as cargo. Frontier Airlines does not allow pets to be carried as cargo. You should consider another airline if you are flying with a larger animal.

For domestic travel, Frontier Airlines doesn't require a health certificate. However, you should check with the U.S. Department of Agriculture if your destination requires any specific documentation.

Frontier does not allow pets to fly internationally if they are traveling with a cat or dog. Frontier currently allows you to fly Frontier to and from Mexico as well as the Dominican Republic. 

You will need to have a certificate of health for your pet in order to fly these international destinations. Check with the country for additional vaccination requirements. You will need to have a valid health certificate that was dated within a specified time period for travel to these destinations.

  • Within 30 days after entry to Puerto Rico.

Frontier allows pets to fly with their owners, but you cannot sit in row 1 or exit row. Even if your pet becomes restless, all pets must be in their pet carrier. Frontier Airlines asks that you do not feed your pet while onboard. Pets should be clean and free from doors. Your pet should not be disruptive to other passengers or need extra attention.

Frontier Airlines - Book your pet for a flight

Frontier Airlines charges $99 per person to allow your pet to travel in the cabin. There is no limit to the number of pets that can be brought into the cabin. However, each passenger can only have one pet. You can add your pet to a frontier airlines bookings by visiting their website. Frontier can also be reached by phone to add your pet to a reservation.


Be aware that your pet cannot be brought on Frontier codeshare flights.

Frontier Airlines pet carrier requirements

Frontier Airlines flights must allow pets to fit under your seat. Frontier's pet policy stipulates that pets must not exceed 18 inches in length, 14 inches wide, and 8 inches high. Frontier will provide a replacement seat for your pet if your Frontier pet carrier size is not within the dimensions.

Frontier requires that your pet can stand, lie down, and turn around while being carried onboard. This is something to think about when selecting an onboard pet carrier. Frontier recommends soft-sided carriers, even though it is not required.

Frontier Airlines Baggage Policies allows you to bring a personal item, or a full-size bag. You can also bring a pet carrier. Frontier will charge you a fee for bringing a carry-on bag.

  • In-cabin pets
    • Only domestic cats, dogs, hamsters and small household birds are allowed on U.S. and international flights to Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
    • Only domesticated cats and dogs are allowed on international flights.
  • Pet Fee. Domestic flights are subject to a USD 99 one-way pet fee. This is payable at check-in or booking. International flights have a different pet fee.
  • Dogs and cats must be at the least four months old.
  • Only service dogs that are trained can travel in cabins with disabled passengers.
  • A flight can carry up to 10 pets.
  • Only 1 pet carrier can be carried by one passenger.
  • Your personal item and carry-on bag will be counted as pet carriers. You will be charged for the carry-on bag if you are carrying a pet container.
  • Pets travelling to/from overseas destinations must have a valid health certificate. Some states require a health certificate for domestic flights within the United States. Check before you travel.
  • You should not feed your pet (food, water) within four hours of your flight departure.

Frontier Airlines Pet Travel Requirements for Domestic Flights

Can you fly on Frontier Airlines domestic flights with your pet?

Frontier Airlines has the following pet travel requirements:

  • Domestic Flights: In-Cabin Pet Policy Frontier Airlines' domestic pet travel policy states that pets cannot travel outside the cabin. Pets cannot be checked as baggage or carried in manifest cargo. Pets accepted for travel include cats, dogs and small household birds as well as rabbits and guinea-pigs.
  • Carry-on Bag Fee. The fee will apply to all passengers who travel with a carry-on bag, as well as the pet carrier.
  • Approved Pet Carriers - Domestic Flights

Frontier Airlines has a domestic pet carrier policy:

  • Pet carriers must not be larger than 18in (L) by 14in (W), x 8in (8H).
  • Your pet must have enough space in the pet carrier to allow them to stand, lie down, turn, and sit.
  • Frontier Airlines recommends that your pet carrier is soft-sided.
  • Pet carriers must comply with USDA and IATA regulations
  • Pet Fee. Pet carrier pays USD 99 for one-way domestic flight.
  • Age of your pet. Frontier travel requires that pets be at least four months old.
  • Pet Reservations. You can either make a booking for your pet over the phone or online, or pay at check in.
  • Not required. While a health certificate is not required for travel within the United States, it might be required in certain states upon arrival.
  • Emotional Support Animals are no longer accepted and must be transported per Frontier Airlines' Pet Policy--all restrictions apply.
  • Service animals (dogs) that have been trained can travel with their owners free of charge in the passenger compartment.
  • A single flight will only accept 10 pet carriers.
  • It is only permissible to transport 1 pet carrier per passenger.

Frontier Airlines Pet Travel Requirements International Flights

Can you fly on Frontier Airlines international flights with your pet?

Frontier Airlines international pet travel requirements are as follows:

  • International Flights: In-Cabin Pet Policy Frontier Airlines' international pet policy states that only cats and dogs can travel in the cabin for international flights. Pets cannot travel with checked baggage frontier airlines or as cargo baggage. These pets are allowed on domestic flights but will not be accepted for international flights: rabbits, small household birds and hamsters.
  • Carry-on Bag Fee. The fee will apply to all passengers who travel with a carry-on bag, as well as the pet carrier.

These conditions must be met by the health certificate:

  • You must date the document within the following timeframes:
    • To enter Puerto Rico, you must travel within 30 days.
    • You must travel within 10 days to be eligible for entry to the United States.

    • Costa Rica entry requirements within 14 days of arrival
    • Mexico entry requires 5 days travel.

    • For all international destinations, except Puerto Rico and Costa Rica, the minimum age for adult pets is 12 months.
    • For travel to Costa Rica, adult pets must be older than 4 months.
    • Pets must be older than 6 months to travel to Puerto Rico. Adult animals must be older than 4 months.
    • Name and address of the owner
    • The species of the animal.
    • Country of origin/destination.
    • Rabies immunization:

Rabies vaccinations must be administered at least 30 days prior to travel, and not more than one year prior to travel. Proof of vaccination will be required for pets that have had rabies booster shots in the 30 days prior to departure.

  • Additional country-specific requirements
  • When traveling to Mexico or the Dominican Republic, health certificates must indicate that your pet has been properly treated and is free of parasites.
  • PIP, Leptospirosis and Hepatitis are recommended vaccinations.
  • Puerto Rico requires the use of a strong collar and 2 ID tags. These tags must contain the full contact information of the owner, such as permanent address and telephone number.
  • Canadian dogs and cats must have a rabies vaccine as well as a health certificate in English or French from a licensed veterinarian.
    • The pet's health certificate must include information such as the breed of the pet, vaccination dates, and expiry dates for the Rabies vaccine.
    • Parasitic treatment must be noted in the health certificate, along with any other documentation.
  • Emotional Support Animals are no longer accepted at no charge. They must travel according to Frontier Airlines' pet policy. All restrictions will apply.
  • Service animals (dogs) that have been trained can travel for free with their owners.
  • Only 1 pet carriage per passenger is permitted.

Travelling with an Equine Service Animal (Dog), on Frontier Airlines

Frontier Airlines has updated its pet policy in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) rules. The new rules stipulate that only dogs who have been trained (incl. Only trained dogs (incl. psychiatric services animals) can be accepted as service pets. To assist persons with disabilities, the dog must be properly trained. Frontier Airlines will allow up to two service dogs per passenger for no additional charge.

 

  • Documentation
  • Before you travel, download the Service Animal Air Transportation Form. This will allow you to validate your dog's behaviour, training, and health.
  • The form should be submitted online at least 48 hours prior to departure. You will need to complete the form and give a copy to the Customer Service Agent at airport if you book later.
  • You will need to submit a U.S. Certificate of Attestation for flights lasting more than 8 hours. DOT Service Animal Relief Attestation Form.
  • All country-specific requirements for international travel must be met.
  • General Conditions
  • A service animal is a dog that is 16 weeks old and has been fully trained.
  • The service dog must always be on the ground and not take up any other space.
  • Allowing small service dogs to be in the lap is allowed.
  • The seat's footprint must not exceed the body of the service dog.
  • The service dog must always be with its owner.
  • Recommend behaviour
  • The service dog:
    • must always be tethered or leashed or harnessed and under the control.
    • You must not bite, growl or bark at people.
    • You are not allowed to urinate or defecate in the airport or aircraft.
  • You must not eat from a tray.

Note

  • Some countries and states may require additional compliances that could prohibit animals from entering or transit. Examples of such countries are Hawaii and the United Kingdom.
  • Refer to the website of the country/consulate that you wish to visit for more information.
  • Service dogs may be transported in pet carriers free of charge.

Frontier Airlines Pet Policy for Emotional Support Animals

Frontier no longer accepts free bookings for emotional support dogs, in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation rules. Frontier Airlines Pet Policy will dictate that you must pay for travel with an ESAN.

The pet carrier counts towards your carry-on bag allowance when you travel with your pet in the cabin. A pet carrier may be brought along with a personal item or a pet carriage and a standard-sized carry-on bag. A pet carrier, standard-sized carry-on bag, and personal item are not allowed on board an aircraft.
How can I add a pet on my flight?
You must:

  • Call Reservations at least 48 Hours Prior to Travel
  • With your official orders, you can check in at the ticket counter.
  • You should allow extra time for check-in (minimum 2 hours, maximum 4 hours) before you fly.
  • Discuss the checklist with your agent.
  • A health certificate is required.

Although airline requirements can vary, the basic requirements for carriers are the same. Dogs should be able stand up straight and move around in their carrier without having to touch its sides or top. Can my cat or dog sit on my lap? No. Your pet must be in its carrier during domestic flights.

Frontier Airlines Pet Fees

Frontier Airlines charges $99 for each animal that travels in a cabin. Frontier Airlines charges $99 per animal in the cabin (each way). Service animals can travel free of charge, provided they follow all rules and regulations before and after each flight.
