About Emerald Airlines
According to reports, Emerald Airlines had bid to operate the Aer Lingus Region franchise. Agreements on the deal are expected to be completed in the early 2021. After the liquidation in June 2021 of Stobart Air the previous operator of Aer Lingus Regional, Emerald Airlines had hoped to begin operations in October 2021. However, agreements on the deal were expected to be finalised in early 2021.
Aer Lingus announced on 17 December 2021 that Emerald would be operating franchised regional flights starting 17 March 2022. A subsidiary company was also established in Northern Ireland by Emerald Airlines UK. It applied for an AOC in Britain with the UKCAA. On 7 January 2022 it was announced that Emerald had been granted a PSO contract to operate a route between Donegal, Ireland and Dublin starting 26 February 2022. This is prior to the original March launch.
