About Cityjet Airlines
CityJet, an Irish regional airline, is headquartered in Swords in Dublin. Air France sold CityJet in May 2014 to Intro Aviation. In March 2016, Pat Byrne, founder of CityJet, and other investors bought the airline. As of August 2020 the airline will be operating wet-lease services for Scandinavian Airlines.
Cityjet was established in 1992 under the name Business City Direct. It began operations in January 1994 and served a single route between Dublin, and London City Airport. The airline had a franchise agreement signed with Virgin Atlantic. In this agreement, it paid fees to Virgin to operate as Virgin Cityjet. Aer Lingus and British Midland services from Dublin Heathrow to London Heathrow, and Ryanair services to London Stansted from Dublin were the main competitors. Cityjet was the only airline that offered services to London City, until Aer Lingus introduced services from Dublin to London City starting September 1999.
