Tata flew the first single-engine de Havilland Puss Moth to transport mail from Karachi's Drigh Road Aerodrome, Bombay's Juhu Aerodrome, and then on to Madras (currently Chennai). It became a limited company after World War II and was renamed Air India. It took delivery of its first Boeing707 named Gauri Shakar on 21 February 1960. This was the first Asian airline that inducted a jet plane into its fleet. It was privatized in 2000-01. After its merger with Indian Airlines, Air India suffered losses from 2006 onwards. In 2017, another privatization attempt was made. The airline and its associated properties were reverted to Tata in 2022.
