You may be eligible to receive a refund if your travel plans were affected by COVID-19 depending on the severity.

To cancel your reservation, visit My Travels. You may be eligible for a future flight credit, or a return to your original payment depending on the ticket type and disruption.

You can cancel your reservation by filling out the cancellation form. We'll be in touch with you to let you know if your ticket is eligible for a refund. Your refund will be applied to the original payment method if your ticket qualifies. We will take up to seven business days to process your request. International tickets may have a different refund policy.

Overview of the refund policy

If your ticket was purchased through United within the last 24 hours, and you complete your purchase at least one week before your scheduled departure, it may be eligible for waiver of cancellation or change fees.
Basic Economy tickets cannot be changed, but they are eligible to receive a full refund within 24 hours of purchase provided that you have completed your purchase at least one week before the scheduled departure date.
You can cancel your reservation and get a refund if your ticket qualifies.

In June 2020, we made our refund guidelines more flexible. If you were affected by a major United schedule disruption, and you have not been granted a refund within the timeframe of March 1, 2020 to June 6, 2020, and you no longer wish to use your travel credits, please complete the refund form. We will review your claim and determine if you are eligible for a reimbursement.
Any fare that offers refunds may allow for a refund to be requested. A cancellation fee may be applicable depending on the fare purchased. Most tickets are non-refundable and cannot be refunded. The value of your ticket might be eligible for an application towards the cost of a new ticket, but this will be subject to a fee. Except for tickets purchased before December 31, 2022 that are valid for 12 months, the validity of tickets is extended to December 31, 2023. Travel must be completed by December 31, 2023. Travel must begin within 12 months of the outbound travel date.
There are many variables that will affect the amount of your refund. Partially travelled tickets will receive a prorated refund based on the rules and segments flown. If applicable, fees and surcharges will not be refunded.
Refunds for credit cards will be processed within 7 business days. All other refunds will take 20 business days from the date of request
