what are JetBlue Airlines Flights

JetBlue Airlines Flights

JetBlue is known for its most generous legroom. JetBlue was the first airline in the United States to offer live TV on every seat. It continues to be the only airline that offers such entertainment on all its flights. JetBlue is a top-ranked US airline.

Tips to Travel on JetBlue

Here's a step-by-step guide to what you can expect from JetBlue, starting with the booking process and ending with the in-flight experience.

What You Need to Know Before Booking with JetBlue

JetBlue is not a legacy carrier nor a low-cost carrier. However, it's one of those rare airlines that still operates like a low price airline but offers amenities and service that is comparable or better to major airlines such as American and Delta.

JetBlue is not as well-known as major airlines, but it has a strong flight system in the eastern U.S.A. and Caribbean. There are also a few flights to Mexico or Central/South America. JetBlue has partnered up with international carriers such as Azul, Icelandair and Emirates to provide connections to distant international destinations.

JetBlue's three main hubs are Boston (BOS), New York (JFK) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). There are also focus cities in Long Beach, Orlando (MCO), San Juan (SJU). The company has remained focused on point-to–point routes. It is possible to connect passengers via its hubs on the east coast for flights from the Northeast and Caribbean. However, flying within the US' western half of the country on JetBlue is difficult unless you travel nonstop from Long Beach.

November 2019 Update: JetBlue introduced the Basic Economy fare "Blue Basic". The new fares still include a standard carryon bag and a personal item. However, there are restrictions regarding boarding order, seating and change/cancellation flexibility. For more information on JetBlue's new fare structure, click here

JetBlue passengers don't have to worry about being bumped because of an oversold flight. JetBlue sells tickets only for the actual seats on each flight. This seems reasonable, but it is not the norm for other airlines who overbook flights in anticipation of "no-shows". JetBlue doesn't overbook flights so there won't be any involuntary denied board situations.

JetBlue's frequent flyer program allows you to pool points with anyone. While some airlines allow you to share points with family members, JetBlue's new policy allows you to pool your points with friends, roommates and even strangers. As long as the group leader allows them access, anyone can use the combined points.

Book a JetBlue Flight

JetBlue flights are easy to book. JetBlue flights can be booked on most third-party booking sites, including Priceline and Orbitz. However, JetBlue also offers fares through smaller online travel agencies. JetBlue offers a flexible date search tool, the Best Fare Finder. You can search for the lowest fare using a monthly calendar. However, it is always a good idea compare prices to other airlines on multiple websites.

JetBlue offers flash fare sales that drop prices as low as $20 for certain flights. Although these flash sales are becoming more frequent lately, they are limited and only available for a specific flight on a specific date. It's still a great deal for a cheap getaway. You can combine it with another low fare JetBlue flight or another airline to get a roundtrip. JetBlue occasionally offers two- or three-day sales. Sign up for fare alerts to find out about price drops

You will be able to select from three economy fares when you book a JetBlue flight. JetBlue's standard fare Blue includes carry-on luggage. However, the cost of your first checked bag is $30 more each way. Blue Plus fares include one bag, which may make them less expensive than the Blue Fare. Blue Flex fares offer two checked bags free of charge and no change fees.

After you have selected your fare, the Even more Space seat will be available to purchase. This seat has slightly more legroom but I find standard seats to be adequate. You will also get early boarding and expedited security screening at some airports. You can also purchase the Even more Speed add on to get the fast lane at security.

You have 24 hours to confirm your booking and cancel if you decide not to take the flight. The risk-free cancellation policy only applies to departures less than 7 days in advance. To get this last-minute option, you will need to book through an intermediary website like Priceline or Expedia.

Check in for a JetBlue flight

JetBlue allows you to check in online for your flight up until 24 hours before departure. For domestic travel, check-in is available online up to 40 minutes before departure and for international travel up to 60 minutes before departure. An airport kiosk, or an agent at the airport can be used to check in. For domestic travel, you must check-in at least 20 minutes prior to departure (30 minutes). Prior to FLL, JFK and TPA, and 60 minutes before international travel.

Check-in for checked bags is required at least 30 minutes before departure for domestic travel (40 min. From FLL, JFK and TPA, and the same 60 minutes for international travel. JetBlue offers mobile check-in where you can get boarding passes on your mobile device, depending on the destination and departure city.

Boarding, and the JetBlue Inflight Experience

Pre-boarding is the first step in JetBlue's boarding process. This includes passengers who require special assistance. Next, Mosaic elite passengers and Mint passengers are followed by Even More Space passengers. Finally, courtesy boarding is provided for active military personnel and passengers with small children. The group is then determined by several factors to ensure staggered boarding.

You'll receive the best service once you get onboard. The average standard seat pitch is 32-33", which is the highest of any US airline. JetBlue provides unlimited soft drinks and snacks. The flight attendants will pass the cart service and set up a self-serve station in the galleys so that customers can get a snack or drink anytime during the flight. You can also purchase premium drinks or snack boxes.

JetBlue's entertainment options are one of the greatest perks. Every seat comes with a seatback TV that allows you to watch live TV and listen to Sirius XM radio. JetBlue also offers Wi-Fi free of charge on all flights, an advantage over other airlines who charge for it. Service is slow and spotty as with all internet connections in the sky. Although your connection may be intermittent throughout the flight you can still access emails and keep in touch with friends and family at the ground.

JetBlue's MINT Class is for those who like to fly in style. It is available on selected Caribbean and coast-to-coast routes. The cabin offers premium meal service and lie-flat seats. It also includes all the perks that you would expect from a Business Class product. JetBlue's MINT Class was introduced in 2014. It offers historically low fares and has shaken up the business class market. To get the lowest MINT classes fares, you will need to make an advance purchase of at least one month. This service is well-reviewed and continues to be expanded on more routes.

JetBlue is a great airline. I have flown it many times and find it to be pleasant. JetBlue is not always the cheapest on any route. However, if you are looking for entertainment and don't mind paying more, JetBlue will include most of the amenities in your ticket price.
